I have always found it interesting how artist will create a work and then years later critics and art historians are trying to figure out the meaning.
In my particular style, method and practice there generally is NO meaning behind anything I have made, not initially anyways.
The process is that I start with a pencil and I draw one line on the paper, somewhere, usually in the center. From that one line everything else seems to expand on its own by adding more lines. Nothing is pre-planned and so it is almost like a download of consciousness streaming through me and exiting out through the pencil. Afterwards Ink is applied, pencil is erased, images are scanned into Photoshop where color is added.

This all started with the eye in the middle, the bits around the eye were added last after expanding outwards into the green slime, the tentacles, the purple lips, the teeth and outer lips. You might see something different than what I am calling these things and that is totally up to you, either way, this is all some sort of weird reflection of my own Unconscious Mess. So after drawing only a few lines these things started to take shape looking like mushrooms coming from all directions and I decided to run with it. And so this is sort of an homage to Super Mario, and also to magic shrooms where if you eat enough of them you will start to talk to this God Consciousness, and that God entity will tell you things like "As above, so below" Click here to order your print
I met a kid named Craig back in Jr. High who used to draw these bubble things, and he would fill entire pages with them, although they never took shape or anything, it would just be a full page of bubbles, I really liked the idea and decided to expand upon this. In the past I have done things like Bears or Dogs faces made out of bubbles. This time, there was none of that, I started with a line or two and soon had the lips drawn, when I saw the top lip with its semi circle I thought "Ah ha! I'll do the bubble thing around these lips!" and that was it. The original version of this only has one bubble set with one lips, these were copied around the page in photoshop. After the coloring was done I realized some of them look like black berries, and so came the title, BerryLips. Click here to order your print!
This image started with the nose first, then the mouth happened although I never filled in the teeth right away so that was left open, the rest of the head was drawn, the ears, the eye tears, the eye space but not the eye ball, the hat, eye lashes and when it came to filling in the mouth and the eyes I suddenly had the idea to swap the eye with the teeth, When I added the hair I had this glimpse/vision of a bird and so added the body to expand upon that idea. In the background are real clouds swirling in a vortex pulling our poor feathered friend down, along with some of his feathers in this piece that reminded me of the old saying "Birds of a feather flock together" (except when one of them is being pulled into a cloud vortex!" I started with a circle in the middle and it kinda looked like a cartoon nose, so I added the eyes on top, then the side green eyes, and at this point i figured, why stop there? and I kept going all the way around that nose with more eyes. Eventually the image expanded with the teeth, the arms, the floating eyes? whatever those are about, and little puffs of cloud or smoke, or thought bubbles to create this Hindu inspired Cartoondala. So I drew this thing. Up close it looks like two dolphins kissing. From afar it starts to look like maybe it's only one creature close-up, some kinda pokemon thing. So many people WANT it to to be two dolphins that I continued along that thought-train and named it KissyPoo. This is actually KissyPoo Light Blue, it comes in various other colors available on the order page. Click here to order your print!
Well, what can I say about this? It all started with some zigzag lines diagonally across the page which initially I thought might end up being teeth until the other torn page looking stuff manifested before me. Even still, the torn page stuff was looking like maybe ripped flesh. After adding the bricks or blocks floating off into space up above and the green floppy kajiggers at the bottom (what are being called FrankenTitties) I realized it looked more like someone pulled a zipper down, but maybe they pulled it down too far and ripped something in the fabric of space and time peering into another dimension? Or the inside of a yellow jacket? So I dunno, wow about... Lazer Blazer Rip! Click here to order your print
The drawing started off in the center as usual and once there began to be some semblance to a face I started adding things, although, in a visual double entendre sort of way, if you flip this upside down it becomes a landscape with grass and clouds and a sun with some weird stuff in between! Which is where the name Living Cloudscape came from. Click here to order your print.
Okay, this particular piece is different from the rest because I definitely started out with the full intention of drawing the theatre masks. I was sitting here thinking about someone who was sad wearing a happy mask, and someone who was happy wearing a sad mask (why they would do that i have no idea) and then I just sort of decided I wanted to draw some theatre masks and have Joker style laughter all around the happy side, with crying sounds all around the sad side, i believe it is called onomatopoeia, and there you have it folks, the origin story of "Masking Emotions" Click here to order your print
This is hands down one of my absolute favorite pieces in this collection. I especially enjoy the eyes with three eyes in them, those were fun to create! It also reminds me of Haida art. It all started with the illuminati triangle eye in the center, that much I knew I wanted to put there, why? because i love that secretive occult kinda shit and I like to add symbols into my work sometimes. Anywhoo, after the triangle eye, the rest just sort of fell into place one line at a time until it formed this sort of Mask looking thing. The hair was added a few days after the pencil drawing phase had been completed to add a little extra flare to it, bringing us to this wonderful "Monster Mask Mash" Click here to order your print.
I asked a couple friends for requests on what to do next. My bestie westie, my main dammie, flippy floppy, stable-able, D-block said, jokingly, to do a caricature of her, and this is i! although with some added extra hair extensions! And there you have it, "Pinecone MB" (I cannot explain online what the MB stands for, if you order the print it will be on the back of the drawing) Click here to order your print
What can I say? It's a piece of cartoon clouds. I was not initially happy with this and it was on its way to the rubbish bin when some friends convinced me that it could be amazing with some added bits and pieces, and so that's exactly what I did, added some more bits and pieces, and it soon became amazing. Later we all sat around trying to figure out a name for this fella, when it came to us in a haze of smoke... "Poof Poof Pass" Click here to order your print.
I have always been a huge fan of the mysterious pyramids and when the lines started to take form I could see the three of them off in a distance. Later the sand was added and as I got to the bottom of the paper I wanted to add something different that stayed in line with my style, and voila! The earth opened up as a giant mouth appeared, and it reminded me of Beetlejuice and the Sand Worms! Click here to order your print.
This one started in the center where you can see the two lines between the eyes )( and from there, the eyes developed and then everything else sort of fell in to place around the eyes and the space around them. When it came to the forehead I wanted to not only have a weird mouth up there but also have a drawing that could be placed upside down and still work out. I titled this drawing long before it was finished and so the title is not REALLY a true rendition of a self portrait of... myself, but more or a reimagining of my inner self image at various points in my life. Self Portrait No.1 Click here to order your print!
Okay, this is not really a self portrait at all, but when I could not come up with a better name after looking at it for so long the idea started to formulate that it could also be another weird version of myself that I have drawn deep from within the ol subconscious mind. The bricks were added as a last effort when no other suitable backgrounds could be figured out because it did have a little bit of a graffiti look to it and so I went with that. Self Portrait No.2 Click here to order a print
I had drawn something similar to this before although I did not have as much action happening as this one, and the splat did not have a face either which I thought was a cool idea. Like what is this? A bug hit the windshield? Splat Attack. Click here to order your print.
At first I did not even see the sun, to me it was more like a cracked egg yolk until a neighbor pointed it out. I like how the cartoon arms seem to run off indefinitely giving the impression that this might go on forever if you were to zoom out a little further. I wasn't still 100% on these being suns until the space background sealed the deal, and that was it... Sun Spots! Click here to order your print
Usually when starting these drawings with one line it is a curved or a squiggly line, this time i drew a straight line, and another, and another, until the 3d box appeared. The characters body was going to be a cartoon guy walking along the street. The background in this image was one of the few that were drawn with pencil and pen and so when I saw the brick wall behind him I decided to add the white outline to the character and make this more of a Banksy street-art style image plastered to the wall instead of a character walking along the street. The box head has two views, in one instance the character is looking down and to the left, and in the other instance it can be looking up and to the right depending on where your eyesight gravitates to, making this characters head/mind, an illusion, much like how our own minds are an illusion that we (humanity) have created. This is the second color rendition of this image, go to the ordering page to view the other color variation available. The first two lines added in this image were the top two solid lines that divide the sky from the bottom, the fin was added later, the sun was added later. The center S-lines were added and then I saw the shape taking form and so was born the whale! In the original color version this is actually colored to look like a real blueish whale in some water swimming into the sunset. And in the original version I had the swirls looking like a rainbow in color but it just didn't jive with the blue whale, sky and water. It was at this point I decided to set the color aside for this second variation you see here. I was keeping the whale the same blueish color with a darker night shade to it but that made the entire image too dark, and for some weirdo reason I decided it would be cool to have a skin colored whale! I actually downloaded a skin-color pallet for this, what I jokingly call "The Skin Whale". The title is a play off of "The Right Now" as it is more about living in the now, being present, like a whale or dolphin, which brought about the current title "The Whale Now" Click here to order your print!
The first thing drawn in this image was the little ufo spaceship looking thing, which in the beginning was only the top half and I was thinking of more like one of those little "Ding" bells you see on a companies countertop, where you can ring for service to alert the attendant that you are there! But then I figured I like UFO's more than I like companies! After that, the center chamber was drawn, the buttles behind the UFO, the little blocks with eyes, the smaller blocks trailing behind them, the cloud thing that looks like its either a tree growing out of it, or it could be to signify air is exiting, like a fart maybe? and the the smaller clouds to the left behind that. The Next outline membrane was added, then the bubbles around the membrane. Then the tongue looking things were not supposed to be tongues but just weird looking bending twisting things coming down, when I added the first center line on the first small tongue i realized, okay, these are tongues!, finally the teeth along the bottom were added, and the green slime drool dripping from the top was added, to sort of imply that maybe these are all tongues inside some sort of giant mouth and that leads us to the title, When a scientist gave a speech about how the earth moves around the sun, and elderly lady stood up to tell him he was full of crap, she said the earth is a flat disc on the back of a turtle, the scientist asked "Well then what is the turtle standing on?" to which she replied, another turtle. What is that turtle standing on? another turtle of course, in the end, the lady used this as her way of winning the argument by saying "It's turtles all the way down!" to which the scientist had nothing to retort with. If you zoom out of my image, you would see that it is Tongues All The Way Down inside an infinitely spaced mouth! Click here to order your print
I live in a major tsunami zone and so I wanted to include something with giant waves up above the mountains. I have seen waves drawn like this before and I have always enjoyed them. After the mountains were added, I started drawing the fir trees (the ones that look like cartoon flames) and then added the leafy trees as a space filler, and lastly the flat land signifies that maybe the forest ends before the mountains. That's about it! When coming up with a title, I was picturing being up in the tops of the trees, maybe in a tree house, and so you have "Tree Fort With A View" Color variations are available on the order page. Click here to order your print!
I draw one line across the page, the mountains, still not knowing they would be mountains and then the road at the bottom. I have always enjoyed the classic Nevada landscape commonly reflected through aviator sunglasses and I could sort of see it coming together through the few lines drawn and I decided to recreate that landscape with my own reasonable hand drawn facsimile, including especially, the colorful trippy Desert Moon Clouds! I was starting to draw another mandala style something something something but with hearts, the drawing didn't really look right to me and I was about to toss this in the rubbish bin but then I thought about connecting the hearts with some sort of wire and stitching it through the big black seeds and flowers (I think those are seeds?). After much debate and twisting in the background I decided that I still liked this one. Coincidentally the coloring was being done just a couple days before Valentines day, as a child I always called it Valen Times Day with an M. Click here to order your print!
I had no idea this would turn out so good! I love mushrooms, shrooms, fungus, mycelium networks, this stuff has always interested me and the more I learn about it the more intriguing it becomes. This is one of the times the image was (sort of) pre planned. I wanted to draw a big mushroom, the mountains, the clouds, the sun and the moon, the grass, the rolling hills, were all improvised. The moon being out at the same time as the sun was interesting because it was supposed to be like when the moon is visible in the day. When the coloring began I thought it would be cool if I could make it look like it was both and night and day at the same time and luckily it all worked out creating this beautiful Wonderland. If you have made it this far down the page you have already realized that I am a huge fan of the old cartoons! From Disney's Mouse to Warner Bro's Rabbit, I thoroughly enjoyed them all as a young lad and that stuck with me for all these years. I saw the black holes used in a very trippy psychedelic Pink Panther episode once and I always remembered now much I would enjoy having a hold that I could slap on any wall and go through it. I had done a sketch where there was this fox character trying to get his arm through several holes to reach assailant where he was getting bonked on the head with a wooden mallet, but the layout just was not working that well. When adding the backgrounds to these I put the Looney Tunes circles and in an ode to Elmer Fudd, titled this piece... "That's All Folks!" Click here to order your print!
If you have made it this far, thanks for the attention and I hope that you enjoy some of these images and maybe even the write-ups that accompany them,
Peace, love and light,
